Felt is one of the materials most used by Beuys in his work. The original Felt Suit was worn by Beuys in his performance Action of the Dead / Isolation Unit in 1970.
Beuys stated that the suit was a way of protecting an individual from the world. There are also connotations to suits worn by prisoners in Nazi concentration camps.
